(P64) When I started studying German, it was a struggle. 当我开始学习德语时，那是一场斗争。
He struggled to overcome his shortcomings. 他努力克服缺点。
She struggled for the independence of her country all her life. 她为自己祖国的独立而奋斗终生。
He struggled against/with the enemies and eventually drove them off. 他同敌人进行搏斗，最后把他们赶走了。
He was badly injured in the accident, but struggled to his feet. 他在事故中受伤严重，但还是挣扎着站了起来。
句式解读
(P64) ...the more I learnt of a language, the more my brain would grow. 我对一门语言的了解越多，我的大脑就越发达。
本句中的“the more..., the more...”为“the + 比较级..., the + 比较级...”句型，意为“越……，越……”，表示后者随着前者的变化而变化。
The more you practise, the better your spoken English will be. 你练习得越多，你的英语口语就会越好。

关系副词引导的定语从句注意事项
表示时间、地点及原因的名词作先行词时，定语从句可用关系副词引导，也可用关系代词引导。若先行词在定语从句中作状语时，应用关系副词；若先行词在定语从句中作主语或宾语时，则应用关系代词。
1. Do you remember the days when we chatted with each other all night? 你还记得我们整夜聊天的那些日子吗？
2. Do you remember the days that/which we spent studying together in the classroom? 你还记得我们在教室一起学习的那些日子吗？
3. I don't know the reason why he didn't turn to his good friend for help yesterday. 我不知道昨天他为什么没向他的好朋友求助。
4. We won't accept the reason that/which you have given. 我们坚决不接受你给出的那个理由。
5. Can you recognize the house where you used to live with your parents? 你能认出你过去和父母一起住的房子吗？
6. Can you recognise the house that/which Tom sold three years ago? 你能认出汤姆三年前卖的那座房子吗？
