【辨析】the number of与a number of

①the number of意为“······的数量”，后面接名词复数，谓语动词用单数形式。

eg：The number of the students is 2,000.学生的数量是两千。

②a number of意为“许多；大量”，相当于a lot of，后面接名词复数，谓语动词用复数形式。

eg：A number of apples are red.许多苹果是红色的。

wealth不可数名词，意为“财富；财产”。

eg：Health is better than wealth.健康胜于财富。

【拓展】wealthy形容词，意为“富有的”。

seldom频率副词，意为“很少；不常”，通常放在实义动词之前，连系动词、情态动词或助动词之后。seldom在句中表示否定意义，故构成反意疑问句时，用肯定的简短问句。
