Look at the pictures and tell the story with the help of the words and expressions under the pictures.

Now work in pairs and find out more about this true event at the Olympics in London, 1908. Use the words and expressions under each picture to help you.

Possible answer:

An Italian marathon runner, Dorando Pietri, entered the stadium and took a wrong turn during the race. He fell down. He was treated by a doctor and he was helped across the finishing line. At first, he was given first place, and the American runner Johnny Hayes was given second place. But after a discussion, the American runner was given the first place.

Put the sentences in the correct order to make a conversation.

Language points

It's＋adj. ( ＋for sb.) ＋ to do sth.(对某人来说)做某事是……

其中it为形式主语，真正的主语是后面的不定式短语。

把真正的主语放在后面是为了使句子的结构平衡。

eg: It's easy to learn a foreign language if you work hard.

如果你努力学习，学会一门外语是很容易的。

类似结构还有：It's ＋n.＋to do sth.表示“做某事是……”

eg: It's a good idea to have a picnic on Sunday.

星期天去野餐是一个好主意。

辨析It's ＋adj＋for sbto do sth.和It's ＋adj＋of sbto do sth.

其区别关键要看句中的形容词。当形容词说明人的品质或特点时，常见的有kind, nice, good, clever, foolish, wrong, rude, polite, careless等，sb前用of。

eg: It's very kind of you to help me.

你帮助我真是太好了。

no chance of doing sth. 不可能做某事

eg：She gets no chance of passing the exam.

她不可能通过考试。

拓展:get a chance to do sth./of sth.有机会做某事。

eg：We won't get another chance of a holiday this year.

我们今年不会再有机会度假了。
