allow /ə'laʊ/ v. 允许
(1)allow作“允许”或“许可”讲,
allow sb. to do sth.允许某人做某事。
(2)allow 作“许可,允许”讲,
只可说 allow doing sth., 不可说allow to do sth.。
eg:They allowed smoking in this room only.
他们只允许在这间屋子里抽烟。
My boss doesn't allow me to use the telephone.
我的老板不允许我用电话。
not all...并非所有的
eg:Not all people can afford a car.
并非所有人都买得起轿车。
not all是部分否定,英语中的not与all, every, everyone, everything, both等词连用时,都表示部分否定,意为“并不都……”。若表示全部否定时,要用none, neither, no one, nothing等。
