Language Points

1.I still can ’t run fast enough, but I ’ve learnt to try my best, not only with running but with whatever else I do.

（1）not only...but(also)... 不但……而且……在句中连接两个并列的成分，强调后者，有时 also 可以省略；注意：用于连接两个并列主语时，谓语动词的数应与 but also 后主语的数保持一致，即 “就近原则”。

e.g. Not only Tom and I but also Mary is interested in watching TV.

不仅汤姆和我，而且玛丽也对看电视感兴趣。

（2）not only...but(also)... 连接两个并列句子，当 not only 置于句首时，第一个句子应倒装，将助动词/be动词/情态动词置于主语前。

e.g. Not only do we come to school on time every day, but also we must work hard.

我们不仅每天准时到校，还必须努力学习。

try one ’s best (to do sth.) 尽某人最大努力（做某事）

e.g. They tried their best to help the people in trouble.

他们尽了最大努力帮助在困难中的人们。

try的常见搭配：

try to do sth. 尽力做，努力做某事

try doing sth. 尝试做某事

try sth. on 试穿

try out (for...) 参加……的选拔；试用

have a try 试一试（try作名词）

2.I was disappointed.

disappointed adj. 失望的，沮丧的；修饰人，感到失望的

disappointing adj.修饰事物，令人失望的。

e.g.Thousands of fans were disappointed because they were unable to get

tickets for Jay Chou ’s concert.

数千名粉丝很失望，因为他们没能得到周杰伦演唱会的门票。

In summary, this was a disappointing performance.

总的来说，这场演出令人失望。

We were all disappointed at/by her failure.

我们都为她的失败而感到失望。
