(1)n. 营救,解救

搭配:come to the/one ’s rescue 来援救某人

单元语法

1 并列句中的省略

并列句中经常根据上下文省略重复的内容,以使行文简洁。

(1)省略出现在后一分句中。

Tom picked up the book on the floor and(he)handed it to his teacher.

汤姆捡起地板上的书并把它交给了老师。(省略主语)

Jim came at eight,but Henry(came)at nine.吉姆是 8 点来的,但亨利是 9 点来的。(省略谓语)

I have been to Beijing and(I have)seen the Great Wall.我去过北京并见到了长城。(省略主语和助动词)

I asked him to see the film,but he didn ’t want to(see the film).我叫他去看电影,但是他不想去。(省略宾语)

(2)省略出现在前一分句中。

We can(win the match),and certainly will win the match.我们能够,并且一定会赢得这场比赛。

(3)前后两个分句中都出现省略。

I ’ll fly to(Guangzhou),but(I ’ll)drive back from Guangzhou.我将乘飞机去广州,但自己驾车返回。

2 状语从句中的省略

(1)在 when,while,whenever,until,if,unless,though,although,as if,as though,as,whether 等引导的状语从句中,若从句的主语与主句主语一致(或从句主语是 it),且从句谓语含有 be 动词,可以省略从句的主语和 be 动词。

When(it is)completed,the museum will open to the public.

当建成后,这座博物馆将向公众开放。

(2)在 than,however,whatever,no matter what 等引导的从句中常省略某些成分。

After two hours she became quieter(than she had been).两个小时后,她变得更安静了。

(3)如果 if 引导的虚拟条件句中有 were,had,should,常省略 if,并将 were,had,should 提前构成部分倒装。

Were it to snow(= If it were to snow)in such a hot summer day,I would do this for you. 如果在这么热的夏天下雪,我就会为你做这件事。
